International Children's Day

Since so often children of the world are taken advantage of, used for labor, malnourished, abused, impoverished, homeless, and voiceless, those who can must speak up for them. Children are the future of the world yet many of them are living in less than desirable conditions. How will you show your appreciation and support for children on November 20th, International Children’s Day?

All children have the following rights (http://www.squidoo.com/international-childrens-day):

1. a supportive family
2. adequate nutrition (including safe drinking water)
3. adequate clothing
4. adequate housing
5. adequate education
6. participation in their community
7. protection from all forms of harm (this includes emotional abuse and neglect)

These rights are all essential for the development of today’s youth, but they might not be as accessible as you may think. How can you help?

1) Recently many local communities have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy and are still struggling to provide care for their children and infants. Donate locally to help a family near you or offer your services where help is needed.

2) Donate to an international relief organization like Concern where care will be provided for children in some of the most vulnerable places.

3) Get together with your friends at school and talk about what you can do to help children in other parts of the world that don’t have access to basic rights such as education. Make a list and act! Check out what GCC students have done in the past.
